After studying marketing as part of an English degree at The University of Warwick, Robin returned to his hometown of Portsmouth and spent a year working on short-term contracts in the marketing departments of a variety of organisations, including The University of Portsmouth and an international internet service provider.
In April 2001, he took his first permanent position as a PR and Marketing Assistant at a local full-service agency. After five months, he was given the opportunity to progress within the agency as an Account Manager and was then made Senior Account Manger two years later. During this time, Robin worked with a wide variety of both 'business to business' and 'business to consumer clients', (including those in law, accountancy, education, engineering, international trade, manufacturing and leisure) acting as an outsourced Marketing Manager.
Whilst working with these clients, Robin created strategic and measurable marketing and PR plans, acquired media contacts through close relationships with editors and journalists and strengthened his written skills (for press releases, case histories, brochures, websites, exhibition panels, direct mail and advertisements). He also managed client budgets, meetings and events (seminars, open days, networking functions and launches), as well as training and photo shoots.
After three years of part-time study whilst working, Robin was awarded a Masters Degree in Marketing from The University of Portsmouth Business School.
The opportunity then arose for Robin to specialise in marketing communications and help launch a public relations consultancy in Southampton. He joined the Institute of Public Relations and, working as a PR Consultant, was able to nurture his media contacts whilst working with clients in media, education, manufacturing, accountancy, law, IT, medicine and waste management. Through undertaking internal responsibilities Robin learnt a great deal about business administration, personnel and financial management.
After founding Maxwell Communications in 2005 and supporting a varied and increasing number of individuals, businesses and international corporate and consumer organisations in successful PR and marketing activities, Robin was the first ever winner of 'Best Freelancer Practitioner' at the Chartered Institute of Public Relations' Excellence Awards 2011.
